The famous question is asked why we don’t blow Shofar on Shabbos. After all we want to scare the Soton from interfering with our prayers on the Yom HaDin. If we don’t blow on Shabbos, aren’t we concerned that the Soton will prevent our prayers from being heard .Chazal tell us the reason is there is a fear that someone will carry the Shofar to Shul on Shabbos and transgress the prohibition against carrying on Shabbos. Rav Aharon Kotler had the following insight. Most people know that you cant carry on Shabbos without an eruv, so for who was this gezeira enacted. Its very unlikely that anyone in Monsey, Brooklyn, Lakewood, Jerusalem, Benei Brak will not realize that you cant carry on Shabbos and carry the Shofar to shul anyway. But, perhaps a new Baal Teshuva in Peoria that is just starting out and knows about Rosh Hashana and Shofar, but doesn’t yet understand all the laws of Shabbos will mistakingly carry the Shofar to shul. We all know that if its between all the “Choshuva” Yidden in Monsey and Benei Brak or the one baal teshuva in Peoria who takes preference and is considered more important. But obviously, Chazal views things differently. All the Jews in Monsey, Boro Park, Stamford Hill, Lakewood and Jerusalem are not blowing the Shofar on Shabbos because of the one baal tshuva in Peoria who might mistakingly carry the Shofar on Shabbos.
This past week there was a momentous event. A new Mikva was dedicated in China. It was sponsored by a Satmar chosid in partnership with a Lubavitcher Chosid who do a lot of business there. At the ceremony the Israel ambassador to China was invited to speak. When he saw the two partners sitting there, he said, you are both joined in this endeavor, now I know that Mashiach is certainly almost here. To which, the Satmar Chosid say, well, you are here, too, so Moshiach is already here..
When all the Yidden in Kiryas Yoel are not blowing Shofar on Shabbos, because of one baal teshuva in Peoria, that scares the Soton more then the Shofar does on the weekdays.
A Gemar Chasima Tova to everyone. May you all be inscribed for a good sweet year..
